Research and Development
The Company has been successful in developing and proving its key technology through the operation record of the 300kW turbine at Kvalsundet. The turbine has proven to be reliable and has an over 14000 hours production track record per December 2010.
The knowledge gained from the 300kW prototype, named HS300, is used to develop a 1MW pre commercial tidal turbine, named HS1000. The HS1000 technology is further intended to be installed in a pre-commercial array in Sound of Islay on the west coast of Scotland.
Hammerfest Strøm remains committed to R&D, with strong focus on reducing the cost of energy supplied by its tidal power devices among other R&D related tasks.
New technology and solutions developed by Hammerfest Strøm is secured through patents, and gained intellectual property.
