Award for international co-operation
The co-operation between ScottishPower Renewables and Hammerfest Strøm, which was established in 2007, have led to a VIBES award. The companies established a Joint Venture through a subsidiary, Hammerfest Strøm UK Ltd. The subsidiary are now taking the tidal technology to commercialization.

“We are very pleased to be working so closely with a utility company such as ScottishPower Renewables who are the UK largest renewable energy company, and who are firmly focused on maximising the development of a wide range of renewable energy technologies, particularly marine renewables” says Fraser McCreadie, Managing Director of Hammerfest Strøm UK Ltd.

On the 24th November ScottishPower Renewables received the International Co-operation Award assigned by Vision in Business of the Environment of Scotland (VIBES).

Keith Anderson, Managing Director, ScottishPower Renewables, said: "We are delighted to been involved with the VIBES award process and to be recognised for our achievements. Tidal generation has a considerable part to play in our future energy needs and we are delighted to working with Hammerfest in developing the technology."

The VIBES awards are held to recognise and showcase the best practise. This award is held to increase the focus on environmental performance, encourage the effective use of resources and enhance the competitiveness of business.

The winners of a VIBES award are being considered for the prestigious European Business Award for the Environment (EBAE) that is held every two years. The next EBAE will be held in 2012, and this award plays a crucial role in demonstrating progress on environmental and sustainability issues worldwide.

In 2006 ScottishPower Renewables became National Winners at the awards ceremony. Among previous winners we find the Johnson & Johnson, Subsea 7 and Rolls Roys.

The applicant’s for this award are businesses with good environmental practice and sustainable development as an apart of policy and future plans. The business needs to have taken actions to improve environmental performance and sustainable development and demonstrate results.
