Hammerfest Strøm has a major focus on the environment in the development, and intends to continue to develop eco-friendly technology. The turbines give no visual or audible pollution for humans due to the fact that they are installed subsea.

An external party has been engaged to undertake environmental studies in Kvalsund, where the prototype is installed. Studies has been undertaken to document the effect the tidal turbine has on the environment, including sea birds and sea mammals. These studies are important for the further development of the company’s technology and expansion.
