In 2003 electricity was delivered to the grid from the world’s first tidal turbine converting kinetic energy from the tidal water to electricity. The turbine, being a 300kw prototype called HS300, has generated both knowledge and electricity for approximately four years before it was retrieved for verification and reinstalled for further research.
The company behind this technology, Hammerfest Strøm, is now heading for commercialization with up-coming installation of a 1MW device (HS1000) and preliminaries of a pre commercial park. The company expects to commercialize the technology in 2012. |
