Hammerfest Strøm AS is a Norwegian technologybased company established in 1997. Company has since its inception been engaged in research and development of state-of-the-art tidal energy technology, and has obtained patents and rights to commercial use by delivering turn-key stream turbines. The company can refer to a test period of 4 years, where the prototype has delivered energy into the commercial energy network. The further intension is to design and develop a 1 MW full-scale demonstration model for installation in Scottish waters, through the 100% owned subsidiary company Hammerfest Strøm UK Ltd.
After a final test period of 6 months the serial production of key-turn tidal power plants will be delivered to the global energy market. The energy giant ScottishPower intention is to install 10-20 units (1 MW) during 2011, and will then be the company’s first customer.
